Hey girl!  If you have a date coming up, a sporting event is the perfect date activity!  Sporting events are filled with excitement, give you plenty of things to talk about, and allow you to see your date in a light-hearted atmosphere!  It’s a win win – especially if the team you’re rooting for pulls off a victory!

Here are some tips to get you ready for your Game Day Date:

Choosing Your "Game Day Date Fit"

  • Like any date, you’ll want to wear something that makes you feel comfortable and shows off your personality, but you’ll also need to dress for the venue.  Be mindful of whether you’ll be indoors or outdoors, what the weather is, and choose footwear that is easy to walk in, as you may be going up and down bleachers, stairs, or ramps or doing a lot of standing.

  • Consider repping the home team by wearing their colours or other team apparel.  If you need ideas for your game day fit, this is a great place to start!  You can never go wrong with a branded ball cap paired with your favourite date outfit.

  • Dressing like a fan will also give you an opportunity to match your date and make for a great photo opportunity!  You may want this photo in the future if things work out 😉

Plan Your Game Day Festivities

  • There’s no better way to get to know someone than watching them interact with other people, vibe out to the music, order snacks and beverages, and participate in other game day activities.

  • Consider arriving early so that you and your date have time to enjoy the festivities happening around the venue.

  • While you’re watching the game, don’t be afraid to get out of your seat, cheer, clap, and high five your date.  When you’re having fun, your date with also be having fun!

  • Plan ahead and make a reservation at a restaurant or bar close to the venue for after the game (approximately 30 minutes after the game is anticipated to end).  That way if things are going well, you and your date can seamlessly move onto your next activity without having to wait in line with the crowds.

Brush Up on Your Sports Knowledge

  • Do a little research before the game to learn more about the team(s) and sport you’ll be watching.  You don’t have to know everything, but you will definitely impress your date with a little bit of sports knowledge!  A great place to start is by doing a quick search of the top headlines for the team or match up.

  • And if you don’t happen to remember all the rules or the bios of the athletes, don’t worry!  This will give you an easy topic of conversation with your date!  Ask questions about their favourite players or game day memories.

Game Day Eats

  • Sporting venues often have a variety of different food options for you to choose from.  Have fun with it!  You can choose something shareable like popcorn, cracker jacks, or candy.  Or go for something that allows you to show off your personality a bit like hot dogs!  It’s always fun to know what condiments people like to choose!

Be Respectful of Other Fans

  • You’re on a date so you’ll want to get to know the person you’re with.  But remember, not everyone else wants to know your date’s favourite colour or where they went to school!

  • Try to save the inquisitive questions for pre and post game or be mindful of how loud you’re speaking so you don’t disturb other fans.  Besides, you’ll still get to know your date when you’re having fun and enjoying the game day atmosphere!

Well, now you’re ready for your Game Day Date!  Have fun, be yourself, and enjoy the game!  Can’t wait to hear those post-date updates!
